Details, Itinerary

The amazing sight of the endless ocean accompanies us throughout our tour.

On this excursion we will circumnavigate the entire island. We’ll not only discover the beautiful parts of the coast but also get an insight into the mountain life of Gran Canaria, and an unmissable visit to a lovely, authentic little town. In order to get even more experiences and sights, we will use the more spectacular and beautiful side roads instead of the faster and easier main roads in several sections of the tour. In addition to the description, our tour also includes some short stops where you will observe captivating views.

➣ During the tour we invite you to a cozy alfresco picnic where you can taste some of the products of Canarian gastronomy. (This is not a main meal, we have selected picnic treats and snacks in the basket, which are often found on the table of the locals.)

On this day you can expect mostly simple urban walks. In the coastal areas, the weather can often be windy and cooler, so we recommend that you wear warmer outerwear, especially in the winter months.

9:00 am
9:00 am

The tour begins in Maspalomas / Playa del Inglés at 09:00. (Meeting point right in front of your accommodation.)

Puerto de Mogán

Puerto de Mogán is a picturesque resort and fishing village, the most unique and idyllic point in the south of the island. From the middle of the 20th century, with the development of tourism, the southern coastline gradually developed and transformed. This former fishing village has also changed completely and today the main focus is already on tourism. However, the old fishing village can still be found to this day and is in excellent harmony with the part of the town created during tourist urbanization. Although these parts are often confused by visitors, in reality the difference between the town’s past and present is striking. During our walk, you can also discover the change between “then and now”. After the town's golden sandy beach and spectacular yacht harbour, we roam the maze of narrow little streets. Meanwhile, you can admire the charming and colorful houses covered with bougainvillea in all colors. The small canals connecting the harbors, with their pedestrian bridges, are lovely additions to this charming little town.

Windmill

At the bottom of a valley, tucked away in the shade of the surrounding mountains, we find a beautifully renovated windmill. For the villagers the windmill is known as the “burned windmill“. It was restored in 1998 to its original condition. Mills are mostly used for grinding wheat. But is that also the case here? For the aborigines, a grain was very important, which is still an everyday "staple food" of the Canary Islands nowadays. You can find out what it is exactly and how it is used on our tour. The place is also home to several items of giant-sized kitchen equipment. They will make you smile to see such unusual objects in a remote place.

Colorful rock formation

Our next stop is the colorful rock formation, which is a special natural formation of basalt stones. This unusually colorful geological formation takes us back to the volcanic creation and origin of the island millions of years ago. The place and its surroundings are also popular with hikers because of its varied colors and the unique mountain scenery.

Away from the tourist beaches

A pristine calm bay at the foot of huge rocks, crystal clear blue water, a few colorful fishing boats bobbing on the water.
This is the next stop of our tour, the authentic village of peace, away from the crowded beaches of tourist resorts. An idyllic place where we can observe the relaxed coastal life of Gran Canaria, where the beaches still retain the purity and originality of the past.
Here you can experience the real Canarian atmosphere, which can be one of the best souvenirs you can take home from your vacation.

Viewpoint

We continue our tour through winding roads to our first viewpoint. The locals simply call this serpentine section “the road of 365 bends”. The viewpoint is located at an altitude of almost 300 meters (1000 feet) and can be described as one of the most spectacular viewpoints in Gran Canaria. The cliff under our feet drops vertically into the deep blue of the Atlantic. The view of the surrounding rocks and the ocean is fantastic and when the weather is clear we can even catch a glimpse of the neighboring island – a wonderful feeling of freedom.
Would you like to enrich your holiday with unique photos? This viewpoint is one of the most sought-after places for taking spectacular vacation photos. We’ll share with you some tips and lesser-known section that will enrich your tour with truly unique moments.

Fishing village, natural lava pools

A stunning serpentine coastline mixed with mountain scenery will take us to the next stop on our tour, an idyllic fishing village on the northwest coast of Gran Canaria. The port is well known for its excellent seafood restaurants, full of charm, Canarian character and atmosphere. The buildings, painted in blue and white, are almost like they’ve been taken out of a Greek village. Unlike the southern part of the island the beaches here are covered with a mixture of black lava rock and dark sand. With a short walk we can easily reach the peculiar natural lava pools, which are mainly the typical bathing places of the north coast. It's a truly unique place created by a solidified volcanic lava flow. However, these pools originally served a completely different purpose than they do today. Exactly what they was used for, when, and why not these days, will be revealed during our walk.

Viewpoint

We arrive at the second viewpoint of our tour, where we take a short photo stop. From here you have a great view of the north coast of the island, the coastal settlements and banana plantations. Our excursions include a number of unofficial viewpoints, lesser known beauty spots. We actually just stop on the road to take in these unmissable views.

Firgas

Our last stop is the lovely little town of Firgas. Here we can admire the water cascading down the stairs of the 30 meter long artificial waterfall. Walking through the town centre, we can discover the ceramic benches whose mosaics depict the 21 municipalities on the island, as well as the relief models of the 7 Canary islands. From the nearby viewpoint we can observe the area of northern Gran Canaria, which stretches down to the Atlantic Ocean. Firgas is a popular destination for tourists mainly due to the waterfall, but the town offers more attractions. The attentive visitor can discover many small points of interest here that are related to the culture, history and daily life of the island.

Plus many more great views and landmarks along the way.

Relax during the journey back to your hotel, where the tour concludes.
