Itinerary

The tour begins in Maspalomas/Playa del Inglés. First we’ll drive North on the motorway, then we’ll head from the coast into Gran Canaria’s heartland.

Not suitable for anyone with any kind of walking difficulties.

• Our first stop is an impressive viewpoint. This place offers spectacular views of the nearby valley, towards the “fortresses” of the indigenous people and the highest mountains of the island as background.

• The Indigenous “fortress” is one of the most important archaeological sites of Gran Canaria. It’s composed of three rocks and has a large number of natural caves and other ones hewn out artificially. The aborigines used this place as a fortress to defend themselves from the Spanish conquerors. On this tour we’ll visit one of these three crags.

• Just like a small oasis, the town of Santa Lucía offers fresh and green vegetation amidst the dry mountain slopes of Gran Canaria. Walking along the quiet streets, you will have the chance to absorb the sweet feeling of a Spanish province.
What will make an impression on you is the sedate atmosphere of the town. It is almost always sunk into silence, and siesta seems never-ending.

• The tour continues towards the middle of the island. Pico de las Nieves is the highest peak of Gran Canaria. Its height is 1956 meters above sea level, and it is the highest elevation of the province of Las Palmas and the third highest mountain in the Canary Islands. The name means “peak of the snows” in Spanish. The views from the peak are stunning! In clear weather the Teide on Tenerife (its 3718 meters summit is the highest point in Spain and in the islands of the Atlantic) is clearly visible, as are many peaks on Gran Canaria itself, for example the Roque Nublo.
Please note that temperatures during the winter months may be below 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees Fahrenheit). Bring a sweater or jacket!

• Our next stop is at the main symbol of the island. The Roque Nublo (rock in clouds) is an ancient and sacred place of worship. This crag of volcanic origin is a huge natural monolith of basaltic rock. It is 67 meters tall and its top is 1813 meters above sea level. We’ll head to Roque Nublo for an easy 1.5-hour trek to the peak and back. This is a pleasant walk but does require a modicum of fitness and comfortable shoes. From the peak the view is simply magnificent!
(Flip flops and similar shoes are not suitable for this path.)

• Next we’ll drive towards the reservoir. It’s a natural reservoir (lake) in the mountains, created using a dam to store rainwater. It is one of the largest reservoirs on the island, very suitable for hiking, walking and relaxing. There is also a picnic area located between pine trees. Over the weekend it is also a favourite spot for locals. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, even if the level of the lake is sometimes low due to lack of rain. What a nice atmosphere, we cannot miss visiting this place.

• Our next destination is a short photo stop at our second viewpoint. This viewpoint is located in a nature reserve and offers a beautiful view of the mountains, pine forest and reservoirs.

• The last stop in the mountainous area is the third viewpoint of our excursion, with a great panoramic view towards the town Mogán and the sea.

• Plus many more great views and landmarks along the way.

Relax during the journey back to your hotel, where the tour concludes.
